It is the only novel by Emily Brontë. It was first published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell. Her sister Charlotte Brontë made edits to the second edition of the novel after Emily's death. The name of the novel was taken from an estate in the Yorkshire Meadows, a historic town in northern England. This novel tells the story of love and passion that reaches the point of possession between the heroine Catherine and Heathcliff, and how this frenzied love leads them to destroy themselves and others around them.
